Ivoknews.com - Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi perished in a helicopter crash in the mountains of East Azerbaijan Province, Iran, on Sunday (May 20).

This tragic accident occurred after Raisi attended the inauguration ceremony of a dam project built in collaboration with the Azerbaijani government.

The crash also claimed the lives of Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, East Azerbaijan Province representative Seyyed Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem, East Azerbaijan Province Governor Malek Rahmati, and five other passengers.

Speculation and Rumors: Was Israel Involved?

The shocking news of Raisi's death quickly spread across social media, especially on the platform X (formerly Twitter), sparking widespread speculation about Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency, being involved.

The hashtag 'Mossad' trended, fueling conspiracy theories.

Israel Denies Allegations

Responding to these speculations, an unnamed Israeli official told Reuters that Israel was not involved in the helicopter crash.

"It wasn't us," the official stated emphatically.

Iran Orders Investigation

Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, immediately ordered a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash.

A high-level delegation led by Brigadier Ali Abdollahi was dispatched to the crash site to conduct the investigation, with findings to be announced upon completion.

Controversy at the UN Security Council

Raisi's death also stirred controversy at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). During a moment of silence held in his memory, Israel's Ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, sharply criticized the council.
